New Business:
1. Suggestions for upcoming programs were made.
2. Members were reminded to check their emails for information about the field trip in July.
Program Report:
Leo Cloutier presented an intriguing program about rocks of the orient and the practice of Suiseki.
He had several samples to show and some books to peruse.
He gave some of the history of both the Chinese and Japanese practices of using these rock displays in their personal lives.
The practice began in China 2000 years ago, and the Japanese began in the 6th century.
Stones that are shaped like mountain peaks with flat bottoms are preferable.
The stones may be mounted, or placed on a base (diaza) or a tray (suiban) with sand or water.
The practice has spread around the world, and there are many variations on the art.

Looking ahead:
We will have our Annual Picnic in lieu of a regular monthly meeting on Monday July 10th, 2017.
Join us at Coyner Park. The address is 2091 Lynhurst Road, Waynesboro, VA.
Bring a dish to share with others. Paper products will be provided.
Start planning on making a display case for the show in September at EXPO. Last year we had quite a few displays which the public thoroughly enjoyed, and we had a lot of help which made things go smoothly.
This is a lot of fun, and it is great to see our regular vendors at our Friday night dinner. (Sept 22, 23, 24) Mark your calendars and come help out!
