SVGMS Field Trip - Danville, KY area 2017
In April, an intrepid group of club rockhounds set out on a multi-day field trip to the Danville KY area. As a result of superlative planning by our field trip co-ordinator, Wayne Petersen, we were able to visit a railroad cut, a limestone quarry, local streams and rivers that were awash in Kentucky geodes, and even do some “backyard rockhounding” at the home of one of the foremost collectors of Kentucky agate in the world.
There was something for everyone, no matter what their collecting interests were, and everyone made it home with carloads (truckloads, van loads…) of great specimens and materials and even greater memories.
Hats off to our field trip co-ordinator for arranging perfect logistics and accommodations and giving the club a field trip experience that will be talked about for quite some time!
