SVGMS Field Trip - Rose River Field Trip 7/14/19
Ten club members met in Ruckersville at 9AM, then caravanned to the collecting site in Madison County. We gathered all our wading and collecting gear, then made a short 50-meter walk to the river where we took a group picture.
It was a warm but pleasant day and everyone was successful in finding unakite, bright red jasper, a little blue quartz, and interesting Catoctin metabasalt with its various inclusions. We used scrub brushes to unveil the treasures in the stream and water from the stream made the dry rocks on shore easier to spot.
Club members collected at their own pace, and everyone had their buckets full by noon. Some stayed to collect longer and enjoy the shaded mountain stream on the east side of the Blue Ridge.
